MATYÓ CRAFT WORKSHOP
Keeping a cherished tradition alive.
Matyo folk art is celebrated in the colourful embroidery that adorns Hungarian national costumes. Learn how to embroider or crochet from the local villagers of Tard, who have kept the flame alive with traditional patterns and passed them down to their children and children’s children.
THE EXPERIENCE
"The nearby village of Tard makes for a charming day out. Upon arrival, be greeted by the locals with a welcome drink and traditional Hungarian snack. An introduction to the Matyó community of the Northeast and their unique history and culture follows.
Next will be a visit to the small embroidery factory run by multiple generations of women to try your hand at embroidery. Learn from the ladies themselves how they customise their own clothes.
A short stroll through the village, stopping to visit the church, brings you to lunch: a homemade serving of gulyas or goulash, accompanied by traditional songs.
Anantara is proud to support local artisans and keep tradition alive. Join us, taking home your own piece of history."
